Many companies will not disconnect services during the pandemic and are also waiving late fees, but you need to call or check their website to see if they are doing this. Eventually, you\u2019ll need to pay your utilities bills so if you are able to pay what you can now, you\u2019ll avoid a larger bill down the road. You may also be able to set up a payment plan if you contact them.<\/p><h2 style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><strong>Student Loans<\/strong><\/h2><p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">To provide relief to student loan borrowers during the COVID-19 national emergency, federal student loan borrowers are automatically being placed in an administrative forbearance, which allows you to temporarily stop making your monthly loan payment. This suspension of payments will last until Sept. 30, 2020, but you can still make payments if you choose. Interest is being temporarily set at 0% on federal student loans through September 30, 2020. You\u2019ve heard the adage \u201cbuy low, sell high\u201d taking your money out of the market now is a panic strategy.\u00a0 You want to be ready to buy investments when they are on sale.\u00a0\u00a0 Stay the course of your investment strategy and don\u2019t let emotions and fear guide your decision making.\u00a0 Conventional wisdom: your retirement accounts should be a last resort for borrowing.<\/p><p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">However The CARES Act, does allows you to withdraw up to $100,000 from a retirement account (IRA, 401(k), etc.) as long as you can prove that you need the money because of the pandemic, without a 10% penalty even if you are not 59\u00bd years old. <\/p><p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">You will still owe taxes on the withdrawal amount, but you can spread the tax bill over three years from the distribution date.<\/p><p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">For example if you withdraw $30,000 and you are in the 24% tax bracket (30,000 x .24), you will owe $7,200 in taxes or $2400 per year for three years for taking your retirement funds as income.
